Why We Love To Go – Allied’s Attic – Thrift Store Review.

View of Allied's Attic Thrift Store Sign and Address number

Recently, I discovered a new (to me) thrift store. Since it has been a bit since our last thrift review, I figured I’d be nice and share it with you! Allied’s Attic is located at 294 George Washington Rd, Enfield, CT 06082. Moreover, at the time of this posting, they are adhering to COVID guidelines and require social distancing and mask practices. Full disclosure, this is Jen writing, and I do not have a travel restriction to Enfield CT as it is the next town over from my city. Allied’s Attic supports Allied Community Services, which seeks to “provide individuals with disabilities or other challenges the opportunity to live and enjoy a productive, independent and fulfilling life”. Additionally, the manager is lovely and enthusiastic about the services and job training programs they offer for people with disabilities.

What They Accept

Allied’s Attic accepts donations of :

  • Wood bundles in a plastic wrap with a handle
  • Clothing for men, women and children
  • Housewares, plates, mugs, glasses, silverware
  • Shoes, handbags, hats
  • Jewelry
  • Knick knacks and furniture
  • Linens, tablecloths, blankets
  • Home decor
  • Books, videos, games, puzzles
  • CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes.

They do not accept stained clothing or damaged items. Additionally, they do pickups for larger items (size or quantity) within a 10 mile radius and it has to be scheduled.

What I Like About It

Allied’s attic is well organized and clean. Furthermore, the staff is passionate and seems to really care about the vision and mission statement of the organization. I discovered some clothing for myself (I love a good lightweight duster sweater/kimono for layering!) and my kiddos. I also sourced a pretty sweet Herve Benard Sport Blazer. Clothing is reasonably priced for personal use as well as resale. The manager does not seem to hold a resale grudge (Thrifts and resellers should be friends!). Items are replenished regularly, and clothing is well sorted by size and general color scheme. I wish I had taken more pictures, but they do have some cool items in there. My favorite is an antique baby stroller in pristine condition. The last time I went, they had a gorgeous vintage wedding dress with a veil and everything in a storage box!

In short, if you are in the Northern CT area looking for a thrift, check out Allied’s Attic. If you go, show us what you got!
